In previous years, Kia, among others, gained fame for its beautiful concepts, most of which did not enter mass production. We will mention some of them, such as the beautiful GT, then Trackster hot hatch and premium supermini Provo, but with exception several design lines that was recently introduced 2014 Soul which took from the Trackster – these concepts have remained just a concept. The audience still wants to see a version of the three-door and the turbo engine from the concept. That brings us to this year’s Auto Show in Detroit, where the Korean automaker unveiled GT4 Stinger concept, which suggests that Kia is no longer just a company that promises a bright future for the company that became equally able to cope with the world’s largest car brands. It is a hatchback coupe with 2+2 seating, rear-wheel drive and turbocharged four-cylinder that Kia is planning to attack the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 twins within a few years.

As well as these two competitors, Kia GT4 Stinger concept is oriented at a very low weight, which is 1,260 kg and the dimensions of this concept is slightly longer and wider than the Japanese twins. However, what makes the Koreans stand out is the beautiful design, made in Kia study in the U.S. state of California, which at first glance looks quite modern compared to the BRZ and GT86. In profile Kia GT4 Stinger concept is similar to the Audi models, which is not a big surprise when you consider that both models developed by Peter Schreyer, and there are the famous “Tigershark” mask, LED headlights and 20-inch wheels. The interior is done in a somewhat simpler style, without exaggeration and with clean lines, so it is possible that it will serve as the design inspiration for future models of the company.

On the mechanical side, as Kia currently does not have a rear-wheel drive platform for compact cars, GT4 Stinger is done on a separate chassis, with a 52:48 weight distribution, 15 – inch Brembo brakes and suspension in the style of the best sports cars. Under the hood Kia GT4 Stinger concept lies 2.0L engine with turbo develops 315 hp and Koreans claim that with minimal modifications, power jumped to 400 hp.
Kia Concept GT4 Stinger release date?
One of the features that have lacked Kia models in the past was the behavior on the road that making their cars were not fun to drive as the Mazda. However, the Koreans referred to the success of the Forte and Optima in various auto – sportive, but despite that, Kia remains at the bottom of the sporty image. For this reason, car enthusiasts definitely want to see this concept to mass production. If sister company Hyundai received a similar car, the investment would be certainly worthwhile.
