This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, domestic carmaker Jaguar comes with the concept of Project 7. This car not only brings back memories of the legendary D-Type, like the rest of Jaguar’s Le Mans program, but also announces what the audience can expect from the new special versions of the F-Type, which is scheduled for introduction next year, with a minimum of 650 hp and drive on all four wheels. Project 7 is named after the number of Jaguar’s win at Le Mans, a giant British-led Indian Tate announces that this is just a concept with no serious plans for mass production. Chief designer Ian Callum says that the team wanted to show the world what jaguar engineers know how not only from the design but also in terms of performances. Under the hood lies a supercharged 5.0L V8 engine that develops 542 hp and 678 Nm of torque, the same engine found under the hood of two serial Jaguars (XJR and XKR-S).
The power is also the 54 hp and 56 Nm of torque more than the most powerful V8 engine currently being developed in the F-Type. It is enough to accelerate to 100 km / h in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 300 km / h. Project 7 is also 10 mm lower than the F-Type to better behavior in curves, but also to get a more aggressive design. From the design, the color blue was chosen for the model of the Jaguar D-Type, which was celebrated in 1956 and 1957 Le Mans 24 hour race, and the lack of a roof and only one seat was also used as the model of the legendary predecessor. As we mentioned, Project 7 announces future performance version of the F-Type, which is supposed to wear the RS badge in order to attack the legendary Porsche 911 Turbo. This model should be introduced to some of the largest Motor Show next year, while the mass production could start in 2015.
In the end, we will note a few words about the predecessor D-Type. Jaguar produced the legendary D-Type in the period 1954-1957, and the car won Le Mans 24 hour race in 1955, 1956 and 1957. This car has brought several innovations, such as the engine is placed behind the driver for better stability, especially on the long Mulsanne direction. Today, all models are rare and highly prized, and prices know how to cross the figure of ten million dollars / euros.
