2016 Maserati Levante

Well, this is something new from Maserati. Italian manufacturer plans to start production of all-new model, which will be a crossover. It will be called Maserati Levante and it will come next year as 2016 year model. If you wonder what Levante means, it is a small town in Italy where Maserati brothers were born, so only by the name we can presume that there will b something special about this model. It will be a large luxury SUV, which will compete models like Porsche Cayenne, BMW X6, Range Rover Sport etc.

2016 Maserati Levante redesign

The 2016 Maserati Levante will be based on Kubang Concept SUV shown in 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. It will have many similarities with new Ghibli mid-size sedan, like similar dimensions, many common visual details etc. On the other side, it will have some unique characteristics, it will be little taller and wider, it will have longer wheelbase, its weight will be slightly increased and will probably come with AWD as standard. Instead of Grand Cherokee’s platform, which was expected, 2016 Maserati Levante will use company’s original platform that is used for Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans. All in all, expect to see usual Maserati’s design with similar front fascia that can be found on Ghibli, but this time with SUV-ish appearance. Interior will be also heavily influenced by Ghibli, so expect plenty of comfort and luxury.

When it’s about engines, 2016 Maserati Levante will use well-known and proven units. It will be powered by the same engines that power Quattroporte sedan. Base variant will be powered with 3.0 liter V6, while other, stronger model will use 3.8 V8 gasoline engine. The first-mentioned produces around 425 horses, while V8 variant outputs more than 550 horsepower. Although it is not confirmed yet, it is expected that 2016 Levante will be available with diesel engines, but for now we don’t have details about possible units.
