This model is considered as one of the key players in the class of subcompact cars nowadays. It was originally launched in 2000 and so far we have seen three generations of this car. Current generation of Kia Rio came in 2011 as 2012 year model and it was very well accepted both by critics and customers. However, company plans to introduce a next-generation model and it is expected that new car will come as 2017/2018 year model. This basically means that you should not expect too much from 2016 Kia Rio. It will come with only minor modifications, while big novelties company keeps for next-generation model.
2016 Kia Rio specs
This is a subcompact car which comes in three body styles. It is available as 3-door hatchback, 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback. Since this model was refreshed last year, it is expected that 2016 Kia Rio will keep pretty much unchanged look. Interior will also remain unchanged, so we can say that all of the changes that are made last year will carry over until next-generation model come. Only changes that are possible are some new exterior and interior color options and maybe some new-designed rims. However, it seems possible that we will see some trim level upgrades and perhaps more standard features in 2016 Rio, in order to stay highly competitive until new model come.
2016 Kia Rio engines
Things under the hood are expected to remain unchanged until new model comes. Current model is available with two petrol engines and 2016 Kia Rio will keep in the same way. The first one is 1.4 liter I-4 engine that makes 108 horses and 101 lb-ft of torque. The other option is 1.6 liter Gamma GDI unit, which has output of 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of max torque. Both engines could be paired to either 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
2016 Kia Rio release date
Well, it is still early for some official release date but if we consider that company usually releases their “new model year” models in the second half of each particular year, it is pretty much for sure that 2016 Kia Rio will come in late 2015. Price is expected to remain unchanged.
