This mid-size sedan came in 2000 as successor of Kia Credos and it was heavily based on Hyundai Sonata, with only minor differences in exterior styling and equipment content. During these years we have seen three generations and, what is probably most interesting about this car is that it carried many names depending on market. Only in U.S. it carried this name all the time. Magentis, Lotze and K5 are some of them. Finally, the Optima name will be from now used for all markets, except China, where they will use the South Korean market name.
2016 Kia Optima redesign
Although 2016 Kia Optima will come as new, fourth generation, differences won’t be big as they was between second and third generation of this sedan. When you see spy photos, it is clear that new model will retain most of the styling cues from an outgoing model. The overall dimensions of Kia Optima 2016 will remain pretty much the same, while “tiger nose” grille and recognizable headlights will be slightly revisited. While those parts will be similar, the bumper and hood area will be more redesigned. It is hard to tell something about rear end of 2016 Optima, because this area of the car is heavily camouflaged.
Only things that are noticeable are lower apron and the exhaust tips, which are same like in current model. However, this doesn’t necessary mean that 2016 Optima rear end will remain the same. This probably means that designers didn’t finish their job yet, so testing mule still uses some parts of outgoing model.
2016 Kia Optima engine
It seems that engine for 2016 Kia Optima will be the same that is used for current model. It is a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine, which outputs 192 horses and 181 lb-ft of torque, with possibility that it will be slightly tuned up for new model. Transmission will remain the same. There will be 6-speed automatic and 6-speed manual gearbox in offer for 2016 Optima.
2016 Kia Optima release date and price
For now, it is only known that 2016 Kia Optima will be launched somewhere in 2015, while the price is expected to be similar as for the current model. For some more precise information you will have to wait for some more time.
