This legendary mid-size SUV is present from 1992, when original model has been launched. During this period of more than two decades, we have seen four generations of Grand Cherokee. Current model came in 2010 and it is expected that it will be replaced soon, but definitely not before 2017. Meanwhile, we wait to see a 2016 Grand Cherokee, which will come next year. Since current model was refreshed in 2013, it isn’t expected to come with some big changes, especially if we consider that next-generation model is close. However, there are some indications that 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee will still come with some modifications and that will be an improved V6 Pentastar engine.
2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee changes
As we said, a mid-cycle refreshed model came in 2013 and came with exterior changes such as revised body-colored grille, new, smaller headlamps, new tail lamps etc. It also came with new steering wheel with paddle shifters, 8.4-inch touch screen, upgraded software etc. It is expected that 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee will come pretty much the same as this model, but with one major difference. Cars base engine, 3.6 liter Pentastar V6, will come with plenty of improvements. This engine was introduced in 2010 and it currently outputs 290 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.
For next year, it will come with some modifications such as turbocharged induction and direct fuel injection. Although this engine is already considered as an excellent option, these changes will make it even better. These modifications were already made on some other company’s engines and turned up to be an excellent move. All these engines are now characterized by much heavier torque output and, on the other side, great fuel economy returns, so we have no doubt that the same case will be with 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This engine will be paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission and 25 percent of fuel savings are expected.
2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee release date and price
For now, exact date of 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee launch is still unknown, but it is for sure that it won’t come before second half of next year. Price is expected to remain unchanged.
