Since its debut in 2010, BMW 5 series Gran Turismo have turned attention with its versatility. Basically it is crossover with raised driving position, but there are elements of hatchback and it is spacious as a full-size saloon cars. The 2015 BMW 5 series Gran Turismo will use 7 series wheelbase. It is the same platform used for its predecessor. However, not too many changes are expected from 2014 model. Probably few exterior details will be added, interior will get latest tech features and engine will be carried over.
2015 BMW 5 series GT engines
Two types of engines will could be found under the hood of the new 2015 BMW 5 series GT. These will be 535i and 550i. The 535i is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six drivetrain. It will be capable to deliver 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Stronger engine 550i will produce 445 hp with its turbocharged V8. This 4.4-l engine will also have 480 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive system will come standard, while xDrive all-wheel will be available as upgrade. Transmission for all models will be 8-speed auto. Fuel economy won’t be affected from current model. The 2015 BMW 5 series GT will go 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg while driving on highway. AWD models will need slightly more fuel for same distance.
2015 BMW 5 series GT – Trim levels
As engine names, same trim levels for the 2015 BMW 5 series GT will be available. It is still unclear which type of car is this, somewhere between hatchback and SUV. If we look at the rear window and deck lid, it is hatchback, but inside, seats are lifter, as for crossover vehicles. Both trim levels comes with standard RWD, while AWD xDrive is optional. First one, 535i has 10-way power front seats, while 550i has it in 20-way.
Panoramic roof and parking sensors on both ends come standard. Both trims could be upgraded with some optional packages, sorted in three groups: Luxury, Modern and M Sport. LED fog lights, quality leather upholstery and larger, 19- or 20-inch wheels are available for Luxury and Modern packages, while M Sport adds performance tires and features for better aerodynamic.
2015 BMW 5 series GT – Release date and price
Release of the 2015 BMW 5 series Gran Turismo is expected during summer. Since there are no big changes to current model, price should remain the same.
